Chest of Van Deventer

On December 3, 2005, the 'Chest of Van Deventer' was handed to the Kröller-Müller Museum by Van Deventer's heirs. This chest contained over two thousand letters from Helene Kröller-Müller to her assistant and confidant Sam van Deventer. The chest was donated as part of the legacy of his son, Mr J.S.R. van Deventer.

Apart from the letters, the chest contained a considerable number of personal and professional documents, such as the correspondance with various major characters in the history of the museum, notebooks, family documents, photographs, and financial documents. Earlier, the Van Deventer family donated archive material and a large number of books from the Van Deventer posessions.

The archive material is not yet available to the public. The pieces have been inventoried and are subjected to research into the biographies of the Kröller-Müller couple.
