Visualization of a Lost Painting by Vincent van Gogh

Underneath the painting Patch of Grass (1887) by Vincent van Gogh, from the collection of the Kröller-Müller Museum, a painting of a woman’s head exists. A newly developed technique makes it now possible to visualize paintings that are covered with over paint. An international research team, consisting of scientists from the Technical University Delft (TU Delft), the University of Antwerp and the German Deutsches Elektronen-Synchroton in Hamburg (DESY), researched this painting by Van Gogh with this new technique.
