For the first time, all fifteen of the dynamic and multi-sensory Shows by Marinus Boezem are being realized simultaneously at the Kröller-Müller.
In the exhibition Marinus Boezem. All Shows you have the unique opportunity to see all of Marinus Boezem’s Shows simultaneously in one exhibition. Marinus Boezem (Leerdam, 1934) – together with Jan Dibbets, Ger van Elk and W.T. Schippers – is the founder of conceptual art in the Netherlands in the 1960s. Conceptual artists find the idea behind the work of art at least as important as the work itself. Boezem is known for his innovative ideas about art, his bizarre and often playful happenings and his large-scale works in public spaces.
In the 1960s, Boezem visits art institutions and galleries to sell his design sketches (Shows), as a kind of travelling salesman. Dressed in a three-piece suit, with a briefcase. Not exactly the idea we have of an artist at that time.
The design sketches of Boezem’s Shows are very detailed, but only when the concepts are realized do they become tangible, visible and palpable. All the shows must be realized according to the ideas of conceptual art from the 1960s, with the principle motifs of air, light, sound and movement. The artist is 87 years old and still closely involved in the installation of his artworks.
Wind and air play the leading role in the Shows. It is an exhibition that you truly feel and experience with all your senses. The exhibition is spacious and playful and suitable for young and old. Fans and hairdryers create cheerfully fluttering drapes and doilies, a curtain of air caresses your skin, there is a real sand fountain, feathers dance in the wind and you’ll be amazed at the sight of ‘the flying human’.
‘Boezem friends’ are present in the rooms to guide you through the exhibition. They can tell you all about the Shows and about artist Marinus Boezem. You can also contact them for a thought-provoking question or a good conversation. They are easily identified by their key cord and facemask and, of course, they keep a safe distance.
