In the Van de Velde wing, the museum is showing audiovisual installations by Willie Doherty, Mario García Torres, Jan Fabre, Cai Guo-Qiang, Matt Mullican, Hetty Huisman and herman de vries. The works are connected to familiar themes in the collection, in which humankind, nature and space for contemplation play a central role.
'Longing for happier times' is a text quote from the installation by Mario García Torres, voiced about the remains of a destroyed work of art. Many of these works reflect on decay and destruction and reveal a desire for better days. They are, however, also dreams of innovation, of confidence in nature and the human ability to find new ways.
