In 1955 Hammacher acquires Prayer by the Catalan sculptor Julio Gonzalez, ‘which is perhaps the purest and most complete representation of how sculpture in the 20th century has become a tense movement in space’. As thanks for the appreciation of her father’s work, Roberta Gonzalez donates 6 drawings to the museum. Hammacher is free to choose which drawings he wants.
