The teaching package Philosophizing with sculptures (and with the director) guarantees an inspiring and exciting visit to the museum for children from the age of 7. By observing and philosophizing together, they learn about famous sculptures and about each other, as everyone makes different observations and different associations.

Philosphizing with sculptures

In Philosophizing with sculptures children and teachers are introduced to twelve famous sculptures such as Femme accroupie by Auguste Rodin and Hoofdstukken (Chapters) by Jan Fabre. The school groups are challenged to explore together what these sculptures mean to them. They discover what makes someone ‘ordinary’ and how you can ‘capture’ a movement. And how long would they be willing to wait for their sweetheart?

Artists: Antoine Bourdelle, Marta Pan, Auguste Rodin, Jean Dubuffet, Giuseppe Penone, Gerrit Rietveld, Ad Dekkers, Umberto Boccioni, Richard Serra, Claes Oldenburg, Oswald Wenckebach and Jan Fabre.

ADAPtive, all-in-one package

The teaching package consists of lesson cards and worksheets with interesting questions, fun exercises, and many extra ideas for lessons. The lesson cards can be used to create a suitable programme and with the worksheets you can make workbooks for the children. The lesson cards in Philosophizing with sculptures and Filosoferen met schilderijen (still to be translated) can be combined to make numerous different lessons.

Key words: Twenty-first century skills, creative thinking, interdisciplinary, learning from each other, and adaptable.
