Free day out for senior citizens
Museum Plus Bus is an initiative by twelve museums that has been made possible thanks to generous support from the BankGiro Lottery. The bus takes senior citizens who live in care homes or receive home care to one of the affiliated museums. Participants receive a warm welcome with coffee or tea, and a tour of the museum. Afterwards, the bus takes them back home. The entire outing is free.
Since it began in 2008, the Museum Plus Bus has seen its popularity soar and provides for a growing need within the target group. In six years, the bus has already taken 99,500 senior citizens on 2065 trips. Around 12,000 participants visited the Kröller-Müller Museum.
Seven museums form the basis of this project: the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Mauritshuis, the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Cobra Museum, the Jewish Historical Museum, and the Hermitage Amsterdam. The other participating museums are: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Museum Het Valkhof, Museum TwentseWelle, the Netherlands Open Air Museum, and Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The Kröller-Müller Museum participates in the general management of the project.
