Helene Kröller-Müller | From a merchant family

First years of Helene Müller’s life, the family business, Spinoza, her marriage to Anton Kröller and the Batavier Line.

Helene Kröller-Müller | The world of difference

Under the direction of H.P. Bremmer, Helene begins her collection and purchases her first Van Gogh in 1908.

1910 – 1919

1912 – 1913

Helene Kröller-Müller | Museum Kröller

In just a few years Helene collects a record number of Van Goghs, thus laying the foundation for her ‘Museum Kröller’.

1913 – 1916

Helene Kröller-Müller | Commissions

Helene becomes director of the Buildings Department and gives commissions to H.P. Berlage, Bart van der Leck and Mendes da Costa.

1918 – 1923

Helene Kröller-Müller | The 'Grand Museum'

Helene wants to have her museum built on the Veluwe. The architects H.P. Berlage and Henry van de Velde design a huge museum house.

Helene Kröller-Müller | 'For the benefit of the community'

Helene remains committed to making her collection accessible to as large an audience as possible. She publishes her book and organizes exhibitions.

1928 – 1935

Helene Kröller-Müller | The donation

Helene transfers all the art to the Kröller-Müller Foundation and convinces the government to support the construction of the ‘grand museum’.

Helene Kröller-Müller | Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller

During the construction, the collection is exhibited in Groot Haesebroek Villa, awaiting the opening of the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller.
